ENROLLMENT FORMS FOR 2010-2011:

Kindergarten Application Form

Grade 1-5 Application Form

We currently have small or no wait lists in Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and 4th grades.  Applications will be placed on the wait list in the order received.  We will continue to accept new students throughout the year as openings become available.  We also offer sibling preference (see below).

Applications must be returned in person or via US mail.  No applications will be accepted via fax or email.  If an email address is included on the application, we will send confirmation that we have received your application. Please print legibly.  Due to the number of families on our wait list, and due to the constant movement on our wait list, we do not regularly update families as to their position on the wait list.  When you move into the top three, we will contact you.  When a spot coms open, we will contact you again to get you the full enrollment packet which includes immunization forms, emergency contact forms, request for records forms, etc. Once a child is fully enrolled and begins attending classes, you do not need to re-enroll each year.

OPEN ENROLLMENT and REGISTRATION for 2010-2011:

  • Feb 2011 -- exact dates to be announced in January. We do not accept any applications for future years until our open enrollment period begins.  (see below)

ENROLLMENT LOTTERY:

We only accept applications for the current school year or during our open enrollment period for the upcoming year.  We do not accept applications for future years beyond the year noted in the open enrollment period.  During our open enrollment period, we accept any and all applications. It is not a first come, first served process.  If we receive more applications than we have space for, MN law requires us to hold a lottery.  The lottery is open to the public but parents are not required to attend.  After the lottery, all families will receive notice that they secured a spot or what their number is on the wait list.

SIBLING PREFERENCE:

If you have a child who is currently registered, then any younger siblings being enrolled in the future will have preference over new families.  We look for sibling preference before determining how many spots will be available for open enrollment. This also means if you have multiple chlidren on our wait list and an opening becomes available for one child, his or her siblings jump ahead on the wait list.  During the lottery, when we draw names for available openings, if that child has any siblings, we pull those names and put them at the top of the wait list as well.

KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT:

MN law requires students to be five years old on or before September 1st to enter kindergarten and six years old on or before September 1st to enter first grade--unless the school board decides otherwise.  The Aspen Academy school board has chosen to follow state guidelines with respect to Kindergarten cut-off dates. If you choose the extended day (full-day) option for kindergarten, there is a monthly fee of $300.  This can be paid up-front for the whole year with a 5% discount, or on a month-to-month pre-paifd basis.  More information will be shared with parents in the full registration packet upon acceptance.  In the full-day option, the teacher will go into more depth on the Core Knowledge Kindergarten curriculum, but no new educational material is presented beyond the Kindergarten curriculum.
